Mixed media animation and VFX for the lo-fi music video "pobachymos zavtra" by indie band Pryborkanyy pes (2025). Hand-painted assets, grunge textures, and animated typography.
The Ukrainian alternative indie band "Pryborkanyy pes" approached me to create visual effects for their music video for the song "pobachymos zavtra." Since the entire footage was shot on an old point-and-shoot camera and had a distinct lo-fi aesthetic, I needed to find a visual solution that would organically complement this retro atmosphere without overwhelming it with artificial digital graphics.
Video Production
The best solution to support the raw, grunge mood of the video was the mixed media animation technique. To avoid a "plastic" digital look, I created the elements by hand: painting them with real colors, intentionally leaving the texture of the brushstrokes and minor imperfections. This conveyed the necessary tactile feel. One of the key visual motifs scattered throughout the video was a hand-drawn dog (a direct reference to the band's name, which translates to "Tamed Dog") with a quirky chewing animation. Additionally, I developed stylized animated infographics for certain scenes, and in the finale, I created custom typography for the song title. This crafted approach synchronized perfectly with the lo-fi footage, making the music video truly unique.
